V60
What is a V60? V60 coffee is a pour-over brewing method that uses a cone-shaped dripper with a 60-degree angle and spiral ridges to enhance water flow. Known for its precision and versatility, the V60 produces a clean and flavorful cup that highlights the coffee’s nuanced characteristics.
How It Works
Ground coffee is placed in a paper filter inside the V60 dripper.
Hot water is poured over the coffee in a controlled manner, allowing the brewed coffee to drip through the filter and into a cup or carafe below.
The V60’s design promotes even extraction and gives the brewer control over the flow rate and brewing time.
V60 Recipe
Ingredients:
Freshly roasted coffee beans.
Filtered water.
Equipment:
V60 dripper.
V60 paper filters.
Burr grinder.
Gooseneck kettle.
Measuring scale.
Timer.
Steps to Make V60:
Measure Your Coffee and Water: Use a ratio of 1:15 to 1:17 coffee to water by weight. For example:
For 300 grams (10 ounces) of water, use 18 grams (about 2.5 tablespoons) of coffee.
Grind Your Beans: Grind your coffee to a medium consistency, similar to granulated sugar. Consistency is key for even extraction.
Prepare the V60:
Place the V60 dripper on top of your cup or carafe.
Insert a paper filter and rinse it with hot water to remove any papery taste and preheat the dripper. Discard the rinse water.
Add Coffee Grounds: Place the measured coffee grounds into the filter and level them for even water distribution.
Bloom: Start your timer and pour just enough hot water (195°F to 205°F) to saturate the grounds. Allow the coffee to bloom for 30-45 seconds as it releases gases and expands.
Brew:
Pour the remaining water in a slow, circular motion, starting from the center and spiraling outward. Avoid pouring directly on the filter.
Maintain a steady pour rate, and aim to finish pouring within 2-3 minutes.
Finish Brewing: Allow the water to drain completely through the filter. The total brewing time should be about 3-4 minutes.
Serve: Swirl the brewed coffee in the carafe to mix evenly, then pour into your cup and enjoy.
